“Merchant Bar Mills - The ‘Cinderella’ of the Steel Industry”. I’ve called it the ‘Cinderella’ of the Steel Industry, because outside of the sector it is often forgotten and unknown, and for many years merchant bar was produced on simple three high hand operated mills, with manual hand stacking and handling facilities. The developments that have taken place over the last 20 years, and that are still taking place have, thanks to the mill equipment manufacturers, have transformed this sector of the steel business into a high technology environment.
